1st All Request Night
The October 22nd, 2020, meetup of the Free Range Ukulele Society of Oak Park (FRUSOP) will have an ALL-REQUEST packet. Everybody (this means you) submits a song. It could be…
- A favorite song from a packet we’ve done before. All you need to do is tell us what song you want.
- A new-to-FRUSOP song. You provide the songsheet. More about that later.
Your song can be new, old, hard, easy, familiar or obscure. Just pick a song you’d like to play.
How to make your request: Send an email to: Lisa at-sign FreeRangeUkuleleSociety.com Tell us the name of your song and (if you know it) the name of the packet it’s from. If you’re submitting a new song, attach it as a one-page PDF file.
Deadline: Friday, October 16 at noon. The deadline is noon because that’s when Lisa, our Mismanaging Editor, will have drunk enough coffee to face this. If you can manage to send us your song earlier, that would be great!
FAQs
Do I have to lead my song? That’s the idea, though if you plan in advance you could bribe someone else.
Can I pick more than one song? Good question. We’ve never tried this so we have no idea what to expect. Make it one song now. Maybe we’ll ask for more later. This is one reason why sending your songs in early would be helpful.
I have a songsheet, how do I send it to you? Attach it to the email. It should meet these guidelines:
- One-page PDF file
- Reasonably legible
- Chord diagrams are not required, but they sure are nifty
- We cannot accept an image from a book under copyright; scanning a page from “the Yellow Book” is right out
- It’s ok to use songsheets that are freely-available for download from sites like DoctorUke.com/songs.html You can make songsheets with a word processor (a monospace font like courier is easiest) or check out UkeGeeks.com/songeditor
- We are totally cool if you type the lyrics and handwrite the chords
If I request a song will you write up the songsheet for me? Nope.
Isn’t this really just a transparent attempt to get more people to participate by leading songs? Maybe. Or maybe we’re staying busy to distract ourselves from the coming apocalypse. Either way, it will be fun :-)
TL;DR: Send us an email. Type a song title or attach a PDF. Lead the song on the 22nd. Simple. Thanks.
